If you're planning to move across the country (or at least between states), you may be looking at one way truck rentals. While this option is generally the most expensive, you can help reduce costs by shopping early. Find out if there are discounts for booking several weeks or months in advance. If so, get the quote in writing. Be sure to get a clear breakdown of where you will pick the truck up and where it will be delivered. Long-distance moves have the added variable of travel time (due to weather, traffic, or other on-road complications), so make an added effort to know what time frame you have. Negotiate for a few days on either end in the event of delays in travel.
