How can I keep moving company costs down?

The Cost of Moving

If you are planning to move, it is important to estimate the cost. Be sure to get a quote from the moving company. They often charge by weight, fuel, and mileage. These costs can add up; most home movers expect payment in full on the day of delivery. Plan to budget for more than the estimate, especially if you are using a full-service residential moving company.

Upon delivery, most moving companies make adjustments to the payment to compensate for underestimated expenses. If the total is more than ten percent of the estimate, you will often be allowed to take up to fifteen days to pay the bill in full. If you cannot pay the bill, your belongings may be kept in storage by the movers.

To keep costs down, consider using a you-pack company. With you-pack movers, you do the packing, loading, unloading, and unpacking, but your costs will be significantly lower than using a full service company. An accurate estimate is delivered before you begin moving, and some companies include gas and mileage in the quote.
